Jesus Conversation with the Twelve
Matthew 16:13-19; Mark 8:27-30; Luke 9:18-27

Jesus would begin a conversation with the twelve that would forever change
their lives. The problem Jesus faced was simply: Did anyone understood and
recognized who Jesus was and what his ministry meant? Who would carry on
the mission when he left his flesh behind? It involved the survival of the
Christian faith. If no one grasped the truth or even glimpsed the truth all would
be lost. Here we find disciplines to embrace when approaching spiritual
decisions. There needs be private prayer, public opinions considered, personal
conclusion drawn and personal commitment which changes lives.
Private Prayer: Luke 9:18;22
Jesus was wondering if anyone of them had discovered who and what He was!
Did they ever have a glimpse of Jesus mission of redemption. He engaged in
private prayer. I believe we find a discipline that is required as we live a faithful
Christian life. The discipline of private prayer prepares a Christian to face the
challenges of live and provides strength of spirit.
Public Opinion: Luke 9:19; Matthew 16:14; Mark 8:24
Opinions: John the Baptist: Elijah: Jeremiah: Jeremiah: All of these were
mentioned because Jesus was held in the highest honor by many. When these
appear, the Kingdom is nearby. Discipline: examine the opinions of others.
Personal discovery: “Who do you say I am?” Matthew 16:17-19
Peter spoke Personal discovery of Peter. Did not come from seeing and knowing
about Jesus. Peter received a revelation from Holy Spirit. Problem: Who was
referred to as the ROCK? Discipline: listen with the heart more than the mind.
