I am a Church Member Part 4

My Church is not about Me!

Review: As church members we are called to serve not be served. Church members are a part of the Body of Christ as functioning members gifted to carry out a role in the local church. Church members bring about unity in the Body of Christ. The church is made of imperfect people just like me. Our goal is to bring unity to my Church.

You have heard the BK slogan: “Have it your Way”! It’s a standard for this fast-food store, but not the local church. The Church does not revolve around my preferences and desires. Mark 9:35 “If anyone wants to be first, he must be last of all and servant of all. Yes, that’s a little stunning to the original 12 and us! The twelve was debating among themselves who would be the most important part of the team. When we join a Church, we give up our preferences.

Church members serve! The word “servant” is used 57 times sometimes it refers to an official but many times it refers to the role a Christian assumes when we surrendered our life to God through faith in Jesus as Savior and Lord.

Church members are to take on the attitude of Jesus. Philippians 2:5-11 Jesus is God but he humbled Himself and being a servant. He had nothing to prove. Jesus became obedient to the Father and His plan to redeem us: Death on the cross for the payment of our sin. Jesus is exalted by the Father. Every knee will bow in all of creation. Jesus will be acknowledged as Lord of all.

Church members ask first: “What can I do for my Church?”

Church members final joy is discovered in serving.

Church membership demands a lot from us but Jesus did everything for us. The Church the “Body of Christ” the visible image of God in the world. The voice of God in a world mostly silent about service. Unlike Burger King’s have it your way, the Church is not about what I like. It’s about showing God’s love, grace and mercy serving each other and our communities. This is my pledge. Sent from my iPhone
