I Kings 2:1-12; 2 Samuel 20; 2 Samuel 16:5-13; 2 Samuel 19:18-20

King David spoke to his son Solmon who would be King at his death. King David was leaving a legacy for this son. Legacy a long-lasting impact of words, events and actions. We leave a legacy to those who follow. I Kings 2:1-12 provides us a glimpse of the legacy. A legacy of hope for the future, hurt that’s hard to move beyond and to honor those who stand with us in moments of stress.

Legacy of hurt that hard to move beyond I Kings 2:5-6; 8-9

Joab’s assassinations of two of David’s commanders: 2 Samuel 20. He was the overambitious devotion to David had one objective: to have first place. Shimei cursed David and called him a scoundrel 2 Samuel 16:5-13. Second encounter Shimei makes a hypocritical apology. 2 Samuel 19:18-20. David accepted the apology and would not kill him. Deathbed words to soon to be King Solmon you have wisdom, but don’t let Joab die with gray hair and peaceful. Solmon you are a man of wisdom, but you know what to do with Shimei.

Legacy of Honoring those who remained with us in painful times. 1 Kings 2:7

“Show kindness… they stood with me!”  Darkness of a rebellious son. Dare to stand with what is right. Deeds of a rebellious child required others to rally around a hurting King. Death of a wayward child we need friends to remain close and connected.
