Conversations on a porch and by pools
John 5:1-47; Mark 2:27

Jesus walked to the pools and porches observing the multitude of broken people
looking for hope. Each with a personal need. The healing came on a Jewish
Sabbath. Needs take no days off! Two conversations on the porch and around
the pools centered on three things: the healing legend, the longing in the lives of
the broken and the Lord

The Legend of the healing powers of the pool. John 5:1-9 The Lord John 5:10-47

Jesus lived in a world of sickness people many hurting people. In fact, wherever
Jesus went people brought sick hurting lonely people to Him. Jesus used these
opportunities carry on an effective ministry. The legion centered on an angel
“troubling or stirred up” the waters of the pool. People stayed near the water
waiting, wondering hoping to try to get to the pool from the porches.

The longing in the hearts of the hurting. John 5:1-9
People waiting struggling anticipating help is on the way. A certain crippled man
on the parch is challenged by a strange question: Jesus asked, “Do you want to
be healed?” Was it to stir the will of the man and raise hope in a hopeless man?
The Lord John 5:10-47
Limited healing: This healing did not come with assurance of sins forgiven until
later. The certain man’s life was better that moment. The second conversation
began: The Jews! Legal issue healing on the Sabbath. Lack of knowledge who he
spoke too. Lasting healing the man’s soul Lame charges: carrying on sabbath.
Claimed to be “son of man” title meaning God’s chosen one. Jesus claimed a
relationship with the father. Lord Jesus response: Father is always working. He
manages all of creation. Father directs the Son. Father loves the son. Father
leads the Son. Father raises the dead. Father give judgement to Son.. Learning
opportunity for Jews. John 5:24-30. Lasting witnesses: John the Baptizer the
Father, Moses. 5:31-37; 45-47 Lostness of Jewish leaders: 5:38-46.
God’s love is no legend, it’s lasting mercy from God who wishes none perish but
all have eternal life through Jesus. Billy Graham referred to lostness as “Cosmic
loneliness”. A hole in the soul only God can fill. There is a longing to be healed
Jesus is the Lord’s anointed commissioned mission of the Father to redeem all
who will come. The cross and resurrection built a bridge to God. Will each of us
take the light to a world where wrong seems right. What could be to great a
cost…..
