Conversation with a Master of Israel
John 3:1-21; Numbers 21:4-9; John 1:9
Nicodemus came to Jesus for some answers about religion. What he received
was an understanding of God’s love which can redeem all of humanity.
Nicodemus came away knowing Jesus and his need for the new birth! There’s a
new way to approach God. New relationship with God and a new revelation.
New way to approach God. John 3:1-16
Religious conversation: 3:1-2 Nicodemus a master of Israel a teacher seeking a
better understanding from Jesus. Right approach: Nicodemus asked for a night
meeting because a prolonged conversation. Religious leaders of Israel would not
want to be seem listening to Jesus. Right understanding: Jesus is speaking truth
needing a “new birth”. Troubled understanding “born again” was impossible
Testimony of Jesus: Jesus speaks truth. (3:10-12) Jesus is the only one who has
been in heaven. Jesus teaches Moses intercession the people’s complaints as
they wandered in the wilderness. (3:13-15) Jesus explains everyone who
“believes in Him would have eternal life” Believe: to rely upon and rest in Him.
Jesus sums up the motivation of God: God so love he sent is one and only Son.
New relationship with God. John 3:17-18
Condemned and separated rejecting Jesus as the Son of God sent by the Father.
God is speaking will you listen? Creator God never intended to be separated
humanity! God never planned on not being with Adam and Eve. God cannot be
in the presence of sin. Connected accepted and loved by God. God’s
mission sending Jesus to us was not to condemn but claim individuals. Covered
by mercy and grace: Everyone who believes in Jesus is not condemned. God has
done all this for each of us. Everyone who chooses to believe will be covered!
New revelation of God: God is free to recreate us. John 3:19-21
Verdict is in you can be covered or by rejecting condemned. Visibility light
exposes darkness and sin. People choose which they love: light or darkness!
Light reveal. Virtue behavior showing high moral standards. When we chose to
believe and listening to God’s voice light enters our life. Our faith in Jesus as
Savior and Lord brings to the believer the opportunity to display the wonderful
work that God is doing in our life.
Today is March 13 numerically that’s 3:16! I trust each of you here those
listening now or later has believed and accepted Jesus as Savior. Eternal
question: Listen to Jesus and respond to God’s love.
