A Sermon to Hebrew Christians

Hebrews 10:11-31
The Army motto is “Be all you can be!? Most Christians joining the Christian army want a uniform not being all they can be in Jesus! Today let’s dive into the instructions of the Hebrew preacher. We begin with the final forgiveness Jesus provides. Followed by faithful living and accepting invitations to grow our faith. Finally, the failure of stepping away from faith.
Final forgiveness purchased by Jesus on the cross. Hebrews 10:11-18
Futility of the old sacrificial system. The offering must be repeated they could never take away sin. v.11 Final offering: Single sacrifice made by Jesus had eternal consequences. “Jesus paid it all. All to him we owe!” Sitting down when work was complete. Allowing the sacrifice to do its work. V12-14 Spirit of God testifies. It’s a covenant God’s spirit putting his laws inside our soul and mind. Our sins are forgotten! No other sacrifice is needed. v15-18.

Faithful living: God’s invitation / instructions for growth. Hebrews 10:19-25
New and open way of living. vv19-21 There was a barrier Sin. New relationship. Four invitations and instructions for Christians. Invitation to draw near to God: Sincere heart: a genuine approach that is honest and filled without lies.v22 Invitation to hold on to our professed faith. Hope anchored in Jesus alone v23. Invitation to find way to love one another and act as a servant doing good things for others. v24. Invitation to stay involved. Make sure worship and fellowship is a part of life v25. Invitation to encourage one another as evil surrounds us.

Failure of stepping away from faith. Hebrews 10:26-31
Deliberate sin combined with knowledge of forgiveness brings judgement. Dishonoring Jesus brings a “fearful expectation of judgement.” Dual warning first for the non-believer remains under the penalty of sin: eternal death. It’s impossible for God to do more to redeem that person. The believer continuing in deliberate and taking God’s mercy and love for granted or lightly results in judgement. “The Lord will judge his people. It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” Enough said Sin by lost or saved will be judged.
Good News Christians are blessed as followers of Jesus. We have God’s love, merc and grace poured upon us. We are invited to grow in our relationship with God. We must never be stagnant in our faith. Out there somewhere and at some time we face all will face eternity! We are really in God’s salvation together.
